A Word From Marissa Powell Van Noy

Empowered women, empower women.  This statement is true for inspiring and genuine women that we come in contact with on a daily basis, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the position we have at Ypsilon Dresses to interact and engage with these individuals.  As we meet women across the state, we find countless examples of acceptance, service, encouragement, and love.  One of these examples is our long-time friend, Marissa Powell Van Noy.

Marissa Van Noy (formerly Marissa Powell) is a model, actress, philanthropist and former Miss Utah USA 2013. One of her biggest passions is traveling and she feels fortunate to be able to travel the world doing a job that she loves. Marissa married her college sweetheart in 2014 and they currently live in Boston. The two of them are both very eager to give back to their communities in any way they can. Together, they created and manage their own foundation named the Van Noy Valor Foundation, of which they focus their efforts on adopted children, those in foster care and underprivileged youth in Massachusetts and Utah.

A Word of Advice

As a successful woman in pageantry, modeling, and many other current endeavors, Marissa used personal goal setting habits, a strong desire to achieve these goals, and her friends and mentors to get to where she is today.

“From a young age, I started to write down my goals that I wanted to achieve. It helped me to really narrow down what it was that I wanted and realize what I needed to do to get there. Sometimes I would be writing down my goals not having any clue how I would achieve them because they seemed so out of reach, but I knew that if I not only believed it could happen but more importantly was willing to put in hard work to make it happen, that it would somehow be possible!

Another habit that I learned to develop from a young age was to never give up on something that lights a fire in your heart. My mom used to tell me as a young girl, "You might hear 100 ‘No's’ before you hear one ‘Yes,’ -- keep working towards the goal until you hear the Yes!" It is a lot easier said than done, but I knew that the ‘No’s’ would be well worth it when I finally got the ‘Yes’ if it was important enough to me.

Lastly, I found it extremely important to surround myself with great friends and mentors who believed in me, even when I didn't. Ladies, surround yourself with people who are on the same path as you. People who are happy, positive, and most importantly who love others. Once you find people who make you happy to be around, make sure you give them the same love and support that they give to you. I believe that what goes around comes around, so only put out love and positivity into the world. You will begin to see yourself and the people around you going amazing places by lifting each other up!”

What is Beauty?

As a stunning model and influencer, Marissa describes beauty as gratitude. “I believe that the most beautiful people in the world are the ones who wear gratitude in their hearts. It's a beautiful experience when you realize that you truly have all of the tools around you to do and be anything that you want to be. Gratitude is one of the purest forms of love and appreciation and I personally think the more gratitude you have in your heart, the happier you are and that truly shines through beautifully.”

Makeup Routine!

"Everyone who knows me knows that I love great makeup- The only thing I love more is great skin, so that I can rock a bare face with confidence! Finding products that work for my skin took time, but it is important to take care of your skin from a young age. My daily beauty routine is pretty simple. When I decide to wear makeup for the day, I start by I using Clinique's "dramatically different" moisturizer, then I apply a little bit of Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and set it with a little bit of Bare Mineral powder. Lastly, I add a pop of color on my cheeks with The Perfect Face medium contour and a little mascara and I am good to go!

If I want to get a little more dolled up for the day then I always wear The Perfect Face foundation, eyeshadow, and contour! The Perfect Face has the BEST foundation for all skin tones and occasions, allowing for light to heavy coverage. The most important step of the day (whether you wear makeup or not) is to use moisturizer and drink lots of water! Your skin will thank you later!"  -Marissa

Final Thoughts

"The most important piece of advice that I have for any woman of any age is that YOU ARE LIMITLESS. There isn't one external thing that can define who you are as a woman- the only thing that has true value is your heart. In a world that is so focused on the external things, be the woman who focuses on the internal. Rather than comparing yourself to others, be the woman who encourages other women to be their best selves. Be the force that encourages yourself to be the best you can be. When you focus on positivity, you WILL inevitably have good things come your way. Instead of focusing on what you don't have (your clothes, your clothing size, Instagram followers) focus on what you want and find ways you can positively bring those changes into your life. You can be anything you want to be in this life- you are not limited. You are limitless!! Now go be the force of love, light and gratitude you deserve!"  - Marissa Van Noy
