Pageant girls, we are talking to you with this one!! We know that it is starting to become crunch time for all of our spring & summer pageant competitors and we wanted to share a few resources with you all in choosing your evening gown, appearance, and ramp dresses! Read below for three things to help this process be as successful as possible for you!
1. Watch how different dresses move on stage!
First, become familiar with the movement of different fabrics and dress silhouettes. We recommend watching videos on YouTube of national pageants to see which colors, styles, and shapes stand out on stage, and which dresses stand out to YOU. Click to watch Miss USA 2017 (preliminaries and top ten here), Miss Universe 2017 Evening Gown competitions (here), and Miss America 2017 Evening Gown competitions (here), and below, the link to our YouTube Channel where we hosted a private fashion show for Miss Utah America contestants who will compete this June!
2. Create Pinterest idea boards & look at new designer collections for inspiration!
Second, become familiar with designers and styles. Pinterest is an amazing resource for you! We have compiled numerous boards for you girls with dresses that fit different occasions, including Pageant Evening Wear, Teen Pageant Evening Wear, and Interview Attire.
Also, be sure to check out different designers! A few of our favorites for pageant are Sherri Hill, Mac Duggal, Ieena by Mac Duggal, Jovani, Johnathan Kayne, Terani, and Tony Bowls. We carry all of these designers + more, and can order any dress for you if we don’t already have it in store for you to try on.
3. Work with experts who understand the industry!
Third, work with a few experts in deciding color, shape, and dress details that might look best on you. This can be pageant coaches, directors, clothing & color stylists, or our very own Ypsilon Dress Specialists. Stick to what you love, but having some professional opinions to help doesn’t hurt!
